CASTLETON STATE COLLEGE | Castleton, VT

Sgarzi Associates was selected to design a new 1,500-seat stadium as the home of the new Spartan football team at Castleton State College in Vermont. The stadium and new adjoining sport fields opened in the fall of 2009.

In light of the stadium’s prominence and proximity to an abandoned railroad line, the client expressed an interest in a train depot vernacular, consistent with existing and past depots in Vermont. The red brick is consistent with the look established on the Castleton campus, and the featured clock tower is intended to become an icon for sports and student life on campus. Materials used are durable and easy to maintain, and local materials such as slate have been incorporated.

Castleton’s team color, green, is included in details such as guardrails and architectural brackets to add to the home team spirit of Spartan Stadium.
